Various scenarios in which an extremely cheap item that is sold in bulk may be problematic in regards to ona'ah

According to the opinion of the Chazon Ish, this shekel contained 19.2 grams of silver. The weight of a barleycorn is about 50 mg according to the Chazon Ish [The weight of a barleycorn is about 65 mg according to Wikipedia - We are not calculating according to that weight} 1 Troy Silver Ounce = 31.1034768 Grams (31,103.4768 mg per troy ounce) So each silver gram is worth $0.651052618 1 zuz = 96 barleycorns weight 1 zuz = 112 perutos 1 ma'ah = 32 Perutos 1 peruta = 1/2 barleycorn weight 20 barleycorns weight = 1 gram 19.2 (some say 19.23) or 16.2 grams of silver = 1 Shekel Hakodesh 1 Shekel Hakodesh = 24 Ma'os (Ma'ah) {so Shekel x 0.0416666667 = (approximately) a Ma'ah} 1 Ma'ah = 32 Perutos {so Shekel x 0.0013020833 = (approximately) a Pruta} |
Accordingly...
Ma'ah = .8 of a gram = $0.5208420944 acc. to the CH'I or .675 of a gram = $0.4394605172 acc. to R' CH'N. A $0.081... difference. Peruta = .025 of a gram = $.0162763154 acc. to the CH'I or .0020331325 of a gram acc. to R' CH'N = $.0137331412. A $0.00254... difference. According to these calculations (acc. to the CH'I) the ona'ah of a peruta or a ma'ah when an item sold... For a sixth less: when valued at 7 and sold for 6 = $3.64... for $3.12... in respect to ma'os $0.1139... for $0.0978... in respect to perutos For a sixth less: when valued at 6 and sold for 5 = $3.12... for 2.60... in respect to ma'os $0.0978... for 0.0813... in respect to perutos For a sixth more: when valued at 6 and sold for 7 = $3.12... for $3.64... in respect to ma'os $0.0978 for $0.1139... in respect to perutos For a sixth more: when valued at 5 and sold for 6 = 2.60... for $3.12... in respect to ma'os 0.0813... for $0.0978... in respect to perutos Calculate and listen to the shiur Extra Information: {So the value of the Five Shekalim Pidyon Haben would be (acc. to the CH'I) $62.60/96.15 grams at 19.2(3) grams per Shekel Hakodesh (Some are stringent and give 102 grams worth = $66.41)}. {A Kesubah of a Besulah (a woman who was at least never previously married) needs to be at least 200 zuz which is the same as 50 sela’im. That is ten times the pidyon haben amount = $626 (or $664.10). Howevever, Rav Moshe Feinstien interprets the coin mentioned in the Kesubah to mean a certain ancient gold coin that was the value of a half a pound of silver. According to his opinion, the value of a Kesubah today would then be over 47 times the aformentioned amount}. {Some have a minhag to give the value of a true half shekel hakodesh before Purim in addition to the three half dollars that are given as a memory of the mitzvah of the half Shekel. This is either 9.6 grams of silver = $6.26 or 8.1 grams of silver = $5.28. {According to the Rama, if a person committed an avaira for which he would be obligated to bring a korban chatas, he should give 18 Peshitim to tzedakah as a kapara. This is the minimum amount it would cost to purchase a sheep or a goat for that offering, and is the equivalent of a Sela. This is approximately 20.4 grams of pure silver. In today’s market this would equal $13.29} |

Response:
Your teretz sounds great. In fact the Yerios Hachoshen in siman 227 (page 835) asks precisely your question and therefore answers exactly your answer as an alternative way of learning the Rambam and ARGUES WITH THE MACHANE EFRAIM being that the whole diyuk of the Machane Efraim from coins is in order to learn out the exact same halacha that applies to regular ona'ah. So l'ma'ase, that can't be the way to answer the contradiction according to the Machane Efraim. So we're back to square one.
L'aniyus da'ati, we can propose the following original teretz in order to answer up the contradiction according to the Machane Efraim "l'shi'taso" in that siman. The Rambam by coins is discussing the issur of ona'ah if he'll use it for business later on being that according to the Machane Efraim l'shitaso ona'ah is gezel and not a z'chus t'viah as Rav Chaim holds, and as the Maharsham says (in vol. 1: 151) according to Tumim that says that safaik gezel is permitted that that is only if he received it in a permitted fashion and here it's beforehand. So therefore we need to say that there's a rov on his side it'll at least be omaid to be nituk l'esai post facto, as the the Shu'T Yad Rama says (of R' Refael Mordechai Halaivi Solovoi in Siman 60: 2) and the Imrai Bina in Shu'T O'CH (Siman 4 "U'mai'hei Ta'a'ma" in which he explains why there is no lifnei iver on the part of the nis'a'ne) and is therefor not restricted to keep it. For that he has a rov to say that the person that he'll sell it to will be mochel the ona'ah and he therefor can use it later on. This is as far as the issur is concerned. However, in hilchos mechirah the Rambam is talking about having to return the ona'ah back to the nis'a'ne and not about forcing the nis'a'ne to pay the pachos mishtus to him. For that he holds that there's no chashash at all once it was given to him because once it was already given then the "derech hakol" is to be mochel it. However before it was actually given then there is only a rov to rely on and the nis'a'ne can still claim that he is from the mi'ut. However, there isn't anyone anywhere that I can locate that answers this apparent contradiction according to the Machane Efraim.
